The Ursus Guard Legion stands as the backbone of the Veck Kingdom’s military might, and Harald’s private guard is its most elite unit.
Numbering around two hundred soldiers, the private guard undergoes a rotational replenishment every five years. Each member is equipped with triple-linked Arche engines and blue steel armor, with additional blue crystal hydraulic canisters embedded in all four limbs to traverse extreme terrain. Familiar with the landscapes of each realm, Harald not only provides his guard unit with formidable battle gear, but also designs specialized vehicles, such as the Titan Arm Sledge and Falcon-class Aether-powered Glider, to accompany the unit’s mobile deployments.
Renowned for their unparalleled adaptability, these warriors became legendary for their role in the defense of the capital and the great counteroffensive at the mountain pass. There, two reinforced platoons launched a daring assault, breaking through Karsten’s pincer formation and laying the groundwork for the Ursus Guard to defeat the enemy forces.
The guardsmen neither hold titles nor marry, and their assigned numbers remain with them for life. Their ferocious and bloodthirsty reputation within the Veck army has earned them the moniker “Garmr,” likened to the hounds guarding the gates of the underworld. Most members spend their entire lives in the unit, but particularly distinguished warriors may be promoted and granted their own Arche Beasts. Twin brothers Halfdan and Sturla, for example, have risen through the ranks and earned prestigious military honors.
Due to the unique status of the guards, King Granit once attempted to disband the unit and integrate it into the royal guard, only to be met with fierce opposition from several Legion Commanders. Though the Ursus Guard Legion remains subject to the authority of the royal court, this fierce and loyal private army will always be bound to the Lodbrok bloodline.
