The Electric State is Being Adapted Into a Video Game
Published 5 Mar 2025
Netflix has announced that its upcoming sci-fi film The Electric State will be adapted into a video game, expanding on the movie’s setting and story. Starring Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown, the film is set to premiere on March 14, 2025, with the game launching on mobile platforms sometime afterward. This move aligns with Netflix’s strategy of growing its gaming division alongside its streaming content.

With competition from Disney, Paramount, and Warner Bros., Netflix has been investing in games to keep subscribers engaged. The company offers a variety of licensed and exclusive titles, including World of Goo Remastered, GTA: San Andreas Definitive Edition, and Rainbow Six: SMOL. It also publishes games based on its own productions, such as Stranger Things. The Electric State’s game adaptation, The Electric State: Kid Cosmo, will serve as a narrative-driven prequel to the movie, covering a five-year period before the film’s events.

The game, as showcased in its trailer, combines a nostalgic visual style with retro-inspired gameplay. Players will experience Kid Cosmo, a fictional in-game handheld title, while witnessing changes in their world before the war between robots and humans. The game’s art style resembles the eerie landscapes and giant robots illustrated by Simon Stålenhag, whose work inspired The Electric State. The announcement received a positive response, with many hoping it could lead to more transmedia projects, including a revival of the canceled Stranger Things game.
