The Halo Battle Royale Was Reportedly an "Fantastic Experience."
Published 17 Oct 2024
Evidence of Halo Infinite's Forge mode has surfaced, with developers describing it as a "fantastic experience." As the latest title in the series, Halo Infinite's team had the chance to incorporate modern trends, including the potential for a Battle Royale mode. Rumors about a mode called "Project Tatanka" suggested a PvE experience for up to 40 players, but development on Tatanka, which began in 2020, was reportedly scrapped by mid-2022.

Design Director Mike Clopper confirmed the existence of this Battle Royale mode, stating on his LinkedIn that he led a team working on the now-canceled mode. Clopper described the mode as a "game changer" and a "fantastic experience," which reignited discussions among fans about the possibility of the mode. Though some fans were disappointed, others were relieved that Halo stayed true to its traditional gameplay roots.

Despite the official Battle Royale mode being canceled, players are taking matters into their own hands with Halo Infinite's Forge mode, creating their own Battle Royale experiences. The canceled project hasn't deterred fans from experimenting with new ideas, allowing them to enjoy a fan-made version of the mode using the latest Forge tools, keeping innovation alive within the Halo community.
