Disney Announces Investigation into Reported 1.2TB Internal Document Hack
Published 16 Jul 2024
Disney is investigating a hacker group's claim that it has stolen 1.2TB of internal data from the company's Slack channels. The data reportedly includes information about upcoming projects, ad campaigns, company logins, and more. Disney has acknowledged the investigation but has not provided further comments.

The hacker group, Nullbulge, claims to have published thousands of messages from Disney's internal Slack channels. They say the data spans 10,000 channels and includes unreleased projects, raw images, code, some logins, and links to internal web pages. Alleged details about a sequel to Aliens Fireteam Elite and a Fortnite x Disney collaboration have already surfaced online.

Nullbulge describes itself as a "hacktivist group" focused on protecting artists' rights and ensuring fair compensation for their work. They targeted Disney due to its handling of artist contracts and approach to AI. This hack, if confirmed, would place Disney among several major companies recently subjected to cyberattacks, including Insomniac Games and Rockstar. The entertainment industry has seen significant cyberattacks, such as the Sony Pictures hack in 2014, with recent victims including Roku, Ticketmaster, and AT&T.
